Behind the scenes

824 miles done and I’m currently in a tent wild camping just across the border into Austria – country number 6, whoop! Think I’m going to make it to Vienna on time, although at points I feel like I’m picturing Vienna as my final stop – A couple more miles and countries to do after Vienna I think!

Loving the blog Kezia! Easy to say from sitting on a sofa, but I am very envious! Porridge looked good!

Hi awesome Kexia typed a long message yesterday and managed to lose it! How could I do that. Main content was about my homework club at the village library ( which we have been fighting to save
library that is ) 10x 8 to 13 yr olds. Some of them are really stressed currently by the horror known as SATS….so we have fun too. Our joint start activity is now to catch up with you. Their geography is abysmal so you are a real live teaching aid. Its encouraging them to dream big until theyy saw the wonderful video of you packing your b and b room. Most of us thought we would need a lie down before we even got on the bike! One wanted to know do you have a solar panel fitted to you or the bike? Another does the bike have a name? Enough rambling: great travelling Kezia and bless you for the inspiration Xxps my ex was at Bham uni with your Dad Last saw him at Eleanor (Cracknells) wedding. So have known you since the joyous announcement of your birth plopped onto the mat…😅

Hi Sue, I have done that so many times – write something and then delete it, so frustrating!
Thanks for your message. It was so lovely to read as I was having a breather mid-way up a hill making my way into Austria! Great to hear about the homework club, although less good news that it’s at threat of being closed, fingers crossed the benefits will shine through. Really great questions from the kids. Firstly, I have a small fold up solar panel that I keep in my bags. I have not had to use it yet. –
I need a bit more sun! But I do have a dynamo fitted to my front wheel. This has a usb connection point which mostly keeps my phone charged so I can use it for navigation. It’s a great feeling to be generating electricity as I go. I guess the feeling of self-sufficiency is something that I really enjoy and the Dynamo helps me do that. You have to be going a a good enough speed though to generate electricity and there is a small amount of resistance but nothing that I notice. I also have a power bank which will last for days if I’m somewhere remote.
Secondly, the bike doesn’t have a name, or a gender for that matter!! Sometimes I think it should do! Maybe the kids could think of something (although I really can’t promise I’ll adopt the name!!).
Happy to answer anymore questions. Thanks for your support
      All the best, Kezia

Hi Anna, thanks so much for your support. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind so far, time just disappears and suddenly the days turn into weeks!! Unfortunately plans did not allow me to stay in Vienna any longer than half a day. I saw some sights though so I was fairly happy. Now with my friend Susie who will cycle all the way to Sofia with me – next stop Budapest.
Hope you and Dave are well. X
